Bello Vino wine tasting at Rex at the Royal
Hello my darling’s! I realize it has been a couple of weeks since I last posted a blog, but I had a legitimate reason. My grandfather Gerald Mitchell “Jerry” Walker had passed away. So, I decided to take some time to reflect, cry, and spend time with both sides of my family, my sibling’s, mother, step-father, uncle and aunt, cousins, their significant others, and my grandmother Cassie. Thank you to everyone for the messages of condolence’s, cards, and hugs. I realize this is slightly off topic to the title, but I felt that a personal touch was needed.
Almost a month ago, before we headed out to Puerto Rico for my husband’s post birthday trip, Eric and I had a rather laid-back wine tasting with Bello Vino at Rex at the Royal! Thank you to Andrew Hueston, Nina Castillo, and Dan Hamm for the invitation, and chance to sample something other than liquor! The tasting, and food samples were absolutely delicious. I loved the fried green tomatoes with this smoky chipotle sauce, the charcuterie board had an amazing variety, and charred okra is one of my absolute favorites. All the food went very well with each of the wines that were poured.
Following a lovely tasting, we headed downstairs to the bar, and treated a number of attendee’s to a round of drinks before enjoying a fantastic dinner. Because we had sampled almost all the small plates and appetizer’s upstairs, we just ordered our entrees at the bar. I ordered the crab cakes, with coleslaw, homemade remoulade, and a perfectly seasoned mix green salad. Eric ordered the burger with crispy red onion, bacon, melted cheese pimento sauce, brioche bun, and fries that were perfectly crispy. If you are looking for a new wine to taste, bring home, or celebrate with, good news, in partnership with Bottled and the PLCB, you can enjoy these at a reasonable price. Also, if you haven’t gone to Rex at the Royal, you really should. The food was fantastic, Southern style, and well made. Cheer’s!
